Disabled & Blind Sailing

As a community contribution the owners of our training vessel (Canterbury Charters Ltd) are prepared to loan the vessel out at cost only to facilitate sailing experiences & tuition for and physically disabled & blind (partially sighted) sailors, experienced or not. They have extended their insurance policies to cover this activity.
WE NEED YOU!. Our instructors are pretty busy in the season and cannot facilitate a course without help. We are looking for other partners or individuals to help us with these projects. If you would like to head a project then please contact us. Without volunteer help this simply cannot work.
Funding. Sailing instructors are wage earners just like everyone else, except they enjoy their job 10 times more then you do! However for us to put together a consistent course and take students out for regular tuition we need to be compensated. We work closely with the Canterbury Community Sailing Trust who have indicated they are prepared to fund raise for this cause, this is why we believe there is a real possibility of constructing full time courses and giving the disabled and blind persons a real chance of a sailing experience and more. Remember there is no reason why a disabled or blind  person cannot participate in crewing on a yacht.

We have purchased a Disabled lifting sling and had discussions with the Lyttelton port Company about embarkation facilities.

Call Dudley Jackson on 03 9602401 in your interested to help or teach.

Disabled Crew? If you are disabled and planing to be crew or be a passenger on a coastal passage then we would like to hear from you.
